Secret Service warned Mr. Met with kill shot during POTUS visit

Secret Service warned Mr. Met with kill shot Stan__Mr__Met

It’s not typical for a mascot to be a target of government snipers, but one day at Shea Stadium, Mr. Met nearly found himself in the crosshairs. It was Jackie Robinson Day in 1997, the 50th anniversary of his major-league debut. President Clinton was on hand for the festivities, and as is typical for such a public appearance, he was accompanied by a full squad of Secret Service agents including snipers “all around the stadium.” This is according to A.J. Mass, the man behind Mr. Met that day.  As he details in his new book, Mass was also the man on the receiving end of a pretty frightening encounter with a Secret Service agent.
"Now listen to me very carefully. ... We have snipers all around the stadium, just in case something were to happen. Like I said, do whatever it is you normally do. Nobody will bother you. But approach the president, and we go for the kill shot. Are we clear?"
Now the agent was just doing his job, and unfortunately for Mr. Met, his job that day was to not care one bit about anything other than protecting the POTUS. But I think it’s fair to say that this little interaction made it more difficult for Mr. Met to just do his job. via Secret Service warned Mr. Met with kill shot during POTUS visit | FOX Sports on MSN.
