Report: Oprah contemplating purchasing Clippers
Oprah Winfrey is the latest entertainment luminary to show interest in purchasing the Clippers.Winfrey is considering teaming with a group of investors to purchase the team one day after owner Donald Sterling was banned for life and fined $2.5 million for making racially insensitive comments, ESPN reports.Winfrey reportedly is contemplating joining forces with media mogul David Geffen, who attempted to purchase the team in 2010, and Oracle executive Larry Ellison. There has been a considerable amount of interest in purchasing the team since NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced the punishment Tuesday. Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and retired boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya each have acknowledged interest in buying the club."Do we want to buy the Clippers? Yes we do," Mayweather said. "Im very, very interested in buying the Clippers." "The league has made it known that it wants more minorities involved, and as a proud Mexican-American, I will bring a different perspective to the NBA in general, and the Clippers in particular," De La Hoya said in a release by Golden Boy Promotions. "I was born and raised in Los Angeles, I know what it takes to run a successful sports entity and nothing would make me happier than to bring an NBA Championship home to Southern California sports fans." Mayweather could have a few issues if he decides to pursue a purchase. He served a jail term in 2012 after pleading guilty to domestic violence and harassment charges in a case involving the mother of his children and he's a big sports bettor, often wagering six-figure amounts on NBA games. via Report: Oprah contemplating purchasing Clippers | FOX Sports on MSN.
