Chef Nadal Serving Shrimp and Grits

You cant go down south without seeing grits on the menu. Grits can be paired with any meat that you can think of, you really cant go wrong. Today Chef Nadal is bringing you Southern Shrimp and Grits that will leave you feeling all warm inside. Its normally a traditional breakfast dish but its really no specific time to serve this dish. You can have for lunch or for dinner but either way you will walk away feeling happy!

For Grits:

  • 1 package of stone ground grits or grits of your choice
  • Butter to taste
  • 1 cup of cheese
  • 8 strips of bacon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Shrimp:

  • 1 pound of shrimp
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of water
  • 3 tablespoons of paprika
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • Chives- enough to top
  •  1/2 cup of butter
  •  Chives
  • 2 teaspoons of minced garlic
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Red pepper to taste
  • 4 teaspoons of lemon juice
  • Bundle of green onions
  • 1 onion diced

Directions For Grits:

  • Follow the box directions for the grits
  • When you get the desire consistency remove from heat and add desired amount of cheese.
  • Crumble the bacon up and add to the mixture.
  • Stir until fully blended.

Directions For Shrimp:

  • Begin with frying 8 strips of bacon and lay on paper towel to drain the excess grease off when done.
  • With the leftover bacon grease, sauté the diced onions.
  • Add shrimp and cook with onions until shrimp are pink.
  • Add butter, minced garlic, paprika and chives to the pan.
  • In a separate bowl mix cornstarch and water together and add mixture to pan.
  • Add a teaspoon more of paprika.
  • Add green onions and lemon juice.
  • Simmer to allow sauce to thicken.

Plating:

  • Spoon desired amount of grits into a bowl.
  • Spoon shrimp and sauce mixture over the grits.
  • Top with cheese and chives.
Make sure to pair it with some southern style tea! You cant go wrong with that!
