San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and two other NFL players are being linked to a mysterious incident that happened in Miami last week.
The news was first reported by TMZ Sports, which cited law enforcement sources and claimed the Niners star was being investigated for an alleged sexual assault. But a Miami Police spokesperson stressed to the News that it was “just an allegation” and that police were “looking into an information report” and nothing more.
The report, which mentions Kaepernick and two other NFL players (Niners receiver Quinton Patton and Seahawks receiver Ricardo Lockette) as “suspects”, does not specifically mention sexual assault. No charges have been filed against any players, the spokesperson said. The report also states that the woman “has had a sexual relationship with Mr. Kaepernick in the past.”
The NFL did not return emails for comment, nor did Kaepernick’s agent. The Seahawks, however, said in a statement that they are “aware of the situation” and “monitoring it closely.” Niners GM Trent Baalke made a similar statement.
“The 49ers organization is aware of the recent media report regarding Colin Kaepernick and is in the process of gathering the pertinent facts,” Baalke said.
According to the information report, a “suspicious incident” occurred on April 1, and was reported on April 3. A woman, whose name was redacted, stated that she arrived at Lockette’s Miami apartment around 9 p.m., and Lockette, Patton and Kaepernick were all present. All four people talked, and the alleged victim said “she mixed some drinks for all of them and gave them shots”. The woman said the players also “told her in order to drink the shots she had to ‘hit’ the bong which contained marijuana.”
The woman said they were all watching a basketball game, and then she “started to feel lightheaded and went to a bedroom to lay down.” According to the report, Kaepernick came in behind her and began kissing her and “she got completely naked.”
Still, the report went on to say that Kaepernick left the bedroom, then pointedly states: “They did not have sex.” The woman said Patton and Lockette later “opened the door and ‘peeked’ inside.” She yelled at them and they closed the door and left. According to the report, the woman “cannot remember anything after that.”
“She woke up in a hospital bed and doesn’t remember how she got there or who transported her to the hospital,” the report said.
