No parent should ever have to lose a child but its even more nerve wrecking when it was just senseless.
Amiya Moses had just celebrated her birthday on December 3rd. She attended Henderson Middle School where she had a ton of friends and was loved by every one.
Richmond Police announced that two people have been arrested in the shooting death of a 12-year-old girl over the weekend.
[su_quote cite="Chief Durham"]"Once we identify folks, you can run but you cannot hide, You will be caught. This senseless violence going on in the city has to stop."[/su_quote]
Amiya Moses was killed in one of five separate shootings
that took place over a 24-hour period. Chief Durham and Mayor Dwight Jones say they are alarmed by the weekend's spike in gun violence, but are taking an all-hands-on-deck approach to arresting those responsible.
[su_quote cite="Chief Durham"]"Many of the detectives investigating these homicides over the weekend have been working around the clock and had to be ordered by their supervisors to go home," [/su_quote]
Amiya was found shot at an apartment complex on Old Brook Road just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say she was fatally hit by a stray bullet during an ongoing neighborhood dispute that started on Thursday.
Chief Durham stressed that the community needs to come together to change the culture of settling disputes with violence.
[su_quote cite="Chief Durham"]"A lot of folks today do not know how to resolve conflict... they resort to violence, We have to change that behavior."[/su_quote]
Police say with the help of the community, they have been able to identify possible suspects but are asking anyone with information on any of the shootings to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
There will be a community vigil at 4 p.m. on Monday at 4900 Old Brook Road.
